We're so excited that you're interested in our Trail Life Troop! This page provides a brief introduction to our troop and answers some of the most common first questions.
Click the button to pre-register your family for 2023-2024. In order to effectively serve all Trailmen in our troop, which has grown to be one of the largest in the country, we are requiring that both new and returning families pre-register.
Our troop seeks to guide the next generation of courageous young men in Beavercreek and surrounding communities to honor God, lead with integrity, serve others, and experience outdoor adventure. We have planned an amazing year of age-appropriate adventurous activities including hiking, fishing, camping, archery, bb-gun and rifle shooting, airsoft, canoeing, outdoor cooking, whitewater rafting, zip-lining, and many more! These activities are not only tremendously fun, but we use them to disciple Christian character and servant leadership in our Trailmen.
We generally meet at 6:30pm on the 1st, 3rd, and 5th Mondays at Kirkmont Presbyterian Church, 3377 Shakertown Road, Beavercreek. We will occasionally adjust our meeting schedule to accommodate holidays, so please be sure to verify the next troop meeting date above. You are welcome to visit any of our troop meetings.

We have both annual fees and event fees:
Annual Fees
Trail Life national membership fee - approximately $30. This fee pays for a group insurance policy and supports a small national Trail Life team who manage the organization, develop content and program materials.
Troop dues - this is changing, but in the past it has been approximately $120 per year. In the past, we allowed this to be paid in monthly increments of $10. We ensure that all of our members have a troop uniform, handbooks, and other troop materials, at no additional cost. Event fees are waived, and members pay only a nominal fee of $5 for our monthly events including camping, museum tours, and other adventures. Regardless of what our troop dues ultimately end up being, as a troop, we're committed to ensuring that cost is not a barrier to any young man participating in Trail Life.
Event Fees
Most events are either free or require a nominal $5 fee for members
We typically have a once-per-year summer adventure that costs around $400. This event is out-of-pocket, but the cost can be completely eliminated through active participation in our annual fundraiser.
Yes, we believe that "God's power is made perfect in weakness" (2 Cor 12:9). We'd delight to have more opportunities to serve special needs children, providing them an opportunity for adventure. We also believe that these children make our troop better... they help us to cultivate love and wonder. In short, serving children with special needs helps to sanctify our troop leaders and youth Trailmen as we grow in grace into the image of Christ.
We'd love to know more about how we can serve your child.
We love it when parents can participate--our ministry is as much to parents as to youth. Also, the biggest limitation on our ability to serve more children is volunteers. That said, we understand that each family has unique circumstances that prevent consistent participation. We'd love to find a way that parents can be involved in the troop that supports the family schedule. And for those families where no parent can volunteer, we're still excited to have your son in the troop.
To make it easier for families to volunteer, we offer childcare for children aged 0 through 4 of volunteers.
Our troop is open to young men ages 5 through 17 and male or female volunteers age 18 and higher.
All of our volunteers must agree to the Trail Life Statement of Faith and Values, undergo national background checks, and screened by both Trail Life USA and Kirkmont Presbyterian Church. We strictly enforce a "two-deep" leadership rule which requires that no adult is ever alone with a youth member of the troop.
All troop events are approved by Kirkmont Presbyterian Church after a risk analysis and mitigation plan is developed.
