In June of 2020 our current charter, First Baptist of Kettering, notified the committee of their desire to no longer charter Trail Life 1202. Since that time, we have been in search of a new home for the troop, prayerful seeking and meeting with different churches to identify a good home for our troop.
We are excited to announce that Kirkmont Presbyterian has invited us to join their church along with our sister American Heritage Girls troop. As they committee meet with the pastors at Kirkmont, we heard excitement and vision for our troops, and we had unanimous agreement that this was the right fit for our troop. We look forward to seeing what the next few months bring as we begin to integrate into the church.
The way Trail Life is structured, the local troop are not individual entities of the national office, rather they are owned and operated by the local church which holds the charter supported with program materials from the national office. Essentially, we are a ministry of the church that charters the troop.
In that sense, each troop has it's own uniqueness as each church can choose to administer the program how they best see fit for their church.
The biggest change we will see immediately is that due to the other ministries that the church has, we will be moving the night of the week we are meeting to Mondays.
Starting Monday, April 5th the troop will start to gather at Kirkmont for our meetings on the first, third, and fifth weeks of the month.
As a ministry of the church, we will follow their protocols which allow families the option of not wearing masks if they so choose.
That said, since it is getting warmer, we will be gathering outside this spring and summer to allow for more space to spread out and more open air. Please dress appropriately when coming to the meetings.
